About us

There was a special energy about what we were doing.
It began to feel like a movement.

OUR STORY

We begin in Allison Hill, a vibrant, multicultural neighborhood affectionately nicknamed “the Hill,” located on a bluff overlooking Harrisburg, the capital city of Pennsylvania. Having been inspired by national movements seeking to increase voter access and turnout across the country, we were founded in 2017 with the goal of replicating those efforts on a more local level, focusing exclusively on this traditionally underrepresented neighborhood.

Originally operating under the name, “We March. We Act,” our initial focus was on non-partisan election education and registration to combat the prevalent voter disengagement and cynicism within the community. As our membership and reputation continued to expand, so did our community engagement efforts. Eventually rebranding as Power to the Hill (P2H), we explored new ways to connect with residents through monthly door to door canvassing, participating in and hosting our own neighborhood events, and by facilitating community discussions and forums throughout the year. On election day itself, we established a presence at the polling locations in precincts 1, 2, & 3, celebrating democracy by providing meals, goodies, and support for all voters, especially those casting their ballot for the very first time.

For over seven years, our passionate, energetic, and creative team of volunteers continue to fearlessly and vehemently reinforce the belief that increasing voter turnout and active citizenship will enable our Allison Hill neighbors to gradually harness a collective power,  increasing their influence within the city of Harrisburg and ultimately improving the lives of those residing on “the Hill.”
